Pentagon Summons Global US Military Commanders to Virginia

(MENAFN) In an unusual and unexpected directive, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has instructed several hundred American generals and admirals stationed across the globe to convene at a Marine Corps facility in Quantico, Virginia, next week.

This rare action has caused unease among the upper echelons of the U.S. military leadership, many of whom were caught off guard by the sudden command.

The Pentagon has verified the planned assembly but has refrained from releasing any substantive information regarding its purpose.

"The secretary of war will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week," stated chief spokesperson Sean Parnell on Thursday.

No further explanation was given.

President Donald Trump, who recently renamed the Defense Department to the Department of War, downplayed any speculation surrounding the gathering.

He referred to the event as a “friendly” reunion and suggested it was nothing out of the ordinary.

“It’s great when generals and top people want to come to the United States to be with a now-called secretary of war,” he told journalists during a briefing at the White House.

The president added that the visit would include tours of military equipment facilities and discussions about cutting-edge weaponry. “It’s going to be great,” he remarked.

Despite the president’s casual framing, some defense insiders expressed concern and confusion.

According to officials cited by a news agency, the directive has caused significant disruptions to global military operations, as commanders involved in active missions were compelled to adjust their itineraries on short notice.

One official questioned the necessity of the meeting, saying, “Whatever it is can be communicated through secure emails, phone calls and video links.”

The sudden convergence of so many high-ranking officials in a single place has led to increased speculation about the real intent behind the meeting, particularly given the absence of transparency from the Department of War.
