US Defense Secretary Orders Removal of Senior Army Adviser

(MENAFN) US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth instructed Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll to remove one of his senior advisers, Col. David Butler, local media reported Tuesday.

Hegseth reportedly made the decision during a meeting at the Pentagon last week, directing Driscoll to fire Butler, who had been considered for his first star promotion. The specific reasons behind the directive were not disclosed.

Butler had been among more than 30 Army officers slated for advancement, but objections from Hegseth have delayed several promotions over the past weeks, according to reports. In response, Butler withdrew his name from consideration and filed for retirement to allow other officers to proceed with their promotions.

Driscoll expressed appreciation for Butler’s service, saying, "We greatly appreciate Col. Dave Butler’s lifetime of service in America’s Army and to our nation. Dave has been an integral part of the Army’s transformation efforts. He will be missed, and I sincerely wish him tremendous success in his upcoming retirement after 28 years of service."
