ACC hosts joint leaders, industry partners to accelerate F-35 combat readiness

Air Combat Command hosted senior leaders from across the joint force, the Department of War and the aerospace defense industry for the F-35 Joint Sustainment Summit Oct. 14, 2026.

The summit brought together combat operators, acquisition authorities, and commercial partners to take a strategic approach to complex challenges of logistics, maintenance, supply chain management, and material readiness necessary to support the modern warfighter.

“The value of this forum is not simply passive information sharing,” said U.S. Air Force Gen. Adrian Spain, commander of Air Combat Command. “It’s about leveraging our collective insights to forge clear, decisive pathways forward.”

Spain challenged participants to confront sustainment hurdles directly, stressing that combat readiness requires an honest assessment of what is working on the flightline and what needs to be changed immediately.

“Using our authorities to act, we need to think about what we can do right now, as a team, to remove barriers, improve readiness, and ensure our warfighters have the combat capability they need,” said Spain.

Air Force Materiel Command outlined targeted interventions to streamline maintenance pipelines and speed up depot workflows.

“True readiness is a team sport, and every part of our warfighting ecosystem must be synchronized to accelerate combat power,” said Lt. Gen. Linda Hurry, AFMC commander. “We cannot accept legacy timelines when it comes to putting lethal capabilities back into the hands of our warfighters. We need our experts on the ground today, identifying the constraints we control, and executing immediate solutions to turn our aircraft around faster. Our future Airmen are counting on us to get this right.”

Enterprise leaders targeted the stabilization of the F-35 Global Support System and Reset, an initiative designed to restore the health of base-level spare parts and speed up depot-level repair pipelines.

To prevent future supply holdups, participants reviewed the contract structures to ensure suppliers are legally bound to precise sustainment requirements and replenishment timelines.

F-35 Joint Program Office leadership highlighted the summit as a deliberate effort to improve fleet readiness and make the weapon system more affordable. U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Gregory L. Masiello, F-35 Joint Program Office program executive officer, emphasized that the joint enterprise is working together to optimize global support systems and deliver long-term sustainment stability.

In addition to contracts and physical logistics, leaders evaluated the status of the F-35’s foundational hardware and software upgrades. This digital modernization strategy supports near-term sustainment releases while preparing the platform for upcoming operational flight testing of advanced electronic warfare capabilities.

While resolving immediate logistical constraints remains critical, summit leaders agreed that long-term mission success relies on evolving the broader sustainment enterprise to outpace emerging threats.
